Located
that Greenpoint, Brooklyn, the new Urban Ecology center will reinvigorate the
already deteriorating conditions of the wasteland that is Greenpoint. Center
on the concept of a primordial pond, the architecture flows seamlessly into
the water and water into the architecture. The pond exists not only as a metaphorical
gesture of a complete rebirth is the impetus to the generation of structure,
program and also the facade. Driven by the historical context of ship building
the architecture takes on a vernacular of ship aesthetic through the use of
wood planked skin and the ribbing as structure. Formally it resides as wine
glasses that are constantly capturing water in a seamless surface from through
the roof, ceiling and ultimately the pond.
