URBAN
"LOBBYING:
FULTON STREET VISITOR & TRANSIT CENTER
Downtown Manhattan
Known
to the world as the financial district, Downtown Manhattan is undergoing a drastic
transition as efforts are made to resurrect the ailing business culture through
an insurgence of residential culture.
Subsequently Downtown Manhattan exists in a state of recolonization as as various
constiuents fluctuate between invasive and habitual tendencies. The recolonizing
machine that is Fulton Street Transit Center embraces its position at the critical
juncture between the convergences of business and residential. Through deploying
the tactic of reiterative fortification, the Fulton Street Transit center lobbies
the invasive tendencies of residential and business culture as prompted by the
attractive/seductive qualities of retail culture, ultimately yielding a range
of aligned recolonizing spaces and programs. This lobbying then affords varying
degrees of hybrid cultures through the coalescing of business, residential and
retail cultures potentially propagating latent night-time, leisure, and even
educational cultures.
