The Jim Murray Memorial Foundation
__________________________________________

The Jim Murray Memorial Foundation, a California Nonprofit Corporation, was established May 17, 1999 to perpetuate Jim's memory and his love for and dedication to his extraordinary career in journalism.

The Foundation's goal is to raise funds throughout the year to provide scholarships for second and third year journalism students. The Foundation coordinates a nationwide essay contest, with winners decided by a panel of nationally known journalists. The greater the success of the Foundation's fund raising events, the more scholarships it will provide for talented students.

After a 3-year term, Richard P. Crane, Jr, attorney with Kirkpatrick & Lockhart, LLP in Century City, and Jim Mahoney, president of Mahoney Communications, resigned from the Jim Murray Memorial Foundation Board of Directors. We thank Dick and Jim for their time and support during the Foundation’s infancy.

We are extremely pleased to welcome new Board members Helene Cohen and Jeff Bogert. They are both committed to the growth of the Jim Murray Memorial Foundation and its mission.

Helene, who was born and raised in Baltimore, Maryland and has a B.S. in Accounting from California State University-Northridge, passed the CPA test on her first attempt, a feat only accomplished by 4% of CPA’s nationwide. From 1994-98, Helene worked for the Beverly Hills Sports Council, an agency representing baseball players. She returned to the East Coast to be closer to her family where she established her own CPA practice in Acton, Massachusetts, near Boston. Her varied clientele include jazz musicians to pre-schools. Jeffrey C. Bogert, born in Wareham, Massachusetts, was admitted to both the California Bar and the U.S. District Court, Central District of California in 1987. Jeff has a B.S. from Occidental College and a J.D. from the University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of Law. He’s a member of Consumer Attorneys of California (CAOC) and California Attorneys Association of Los Angeles (CAALA). The Law Offices of Jeffery C. Bogert were established in 1997 in West Los Angeles. Jeff resides in Santa Monica.
