hydrophonie

-----------------

hydrophonie is a sound experiment/installation that explores water as a sound filtration device. an excerpt of George Frederic Handel's "Water Music" is played underwater via an underwater speaker and re-recorded by a hydrophone (an underwater microphone). the 1st generation of the recording is then broadcast back into the water (as well as into the room of the installation space) and a 2nd generation underwater recording is made. the process is continually repeated and harmonic content is gradually stripped away with each generation, resulting in a slowly evolving drone composed of the remaining dominant frequencies.
