One goal of this project was to explore the creation of emotion evoking and creature-like forms using only tetrahedrons and octahedrons. I wanted to extract emotion out of hundreds of acrylic equilateral triangles.
The second goal was to create a representation of crumbling cyberspace. The acrylic triangles deliberately look like polygons, and when arranged in tetrahedrons and octahedrons the polyhedrons perfectly tessellate 3D space. In my piece the ordered lattice has lost cohesion and, like chipped marble, reveals a playing surface just big enough to play chess. My chess pieces are meant to be fragments of this crumbling 3D world.
