Weekly 7 - Reading Response
Though I’ve been utilizing and benefitting from open source software about as long as I’ve been using the internet, I haven’t ever contributed much to any of those projects. Blender and p5.js, which were mentioned specifically in the article, are amongst many other open source projects that have allowed me to bring my creative ideas to life in DESMA classes and otherwise. Reading this zine has given me a new gratitude for the people that contribute to these libraries of free information and technology, and while the fact that I don’t know any of these people’s names is problematic, I also think it’s very noble.
I hope to at some point make my own significant contributions to an open source project of some kind as a way of paying forward the benefits that I’ve reaped from open sources, whether I receive recognition for it or not.
For The Class:
If you were developing a project of some kind and made the decision to make it open source, would it matter to you whether or not you were recognized by name for your creation?
