A REFLECTION ON FRANK CHIMERO'S "WHAT SCREENS WANT"

“What Screens Want” is a humorous, yet informational, article on the evolution of the design of screens. As someone who has a very short attention span,
Chimero’s site design kept me engaged, for it utilized the very elements he spoke about (medium level flux).

I thought the way he compared the downsizing of technology (cell phones, desktop computers, etc.) to the new Asprin pill design was genius. Today’s computers
are so compressed and high-functioning, that, for us to be able to use them, we have to design ‘filler’ to make them user-friendly. This ‘filler’ (modern glass screens,
futuristic metal cases, etc.) has become a marketing tool that draws consumers in.

This makes me wonder what other things in our everyday lives can become more ‘potent,’ ‘powerful,’ and ‘stronger.’ What takes up unnecessary space in
modern day society? This inspires me as a designer…
