HOSAY TRINIDAD

 (1998) Ethnographic documentary about Islamic religious practices in Trinidad.
 

HIMALAYAN HERDERS

 (1996) Feature length ethnographic documentary of life in a Himalayan village. Shot in 1986 and 1989 with additional footage from 1971 and 1992.
 

 TAILSLATE

 (1994) Experimental film in which all the slates from the 1986 Himalayan Herders shoot were strung together. It is a record of the moments when the cinematographer stops concentrating on the subject and attends to the mechanics of production. It is actually more interesting than it sounds.
 

 THE LAST WINDOW

 (1989) The Charles J. Connick stained glass studio of Boston closed it's doors in 1986. This portrait of the artisans fellows the making of the studio's final commission. While the written records and tools are archived at the Boston Public Library, and the studios thousands of windows live on, this film seeks to evoke the studio as a place of work and fellowship.
 

 NEW ENGLAND FIDDLES

(1984) This is about the traditional fiddle music of the Northeast and includes sections on seven fiddlers who exemplify French Scottish, Irish and Yankee styles. 
 

 NEW ENGLAND DANCES

(1990) A companion to New England Fiddles, this film visits dance communities in the Northeast. Whereas the fiddler is the virtuoso embodiment of an aesthetic, the dancers are a community reflection of the same system.
 

 KHMER COURT DANCE

(1992) Studio production of Cambodian classical dance. Contains commentary and five dances edited from multiple camera coverage.
 

 A PLACE FOR JAZZ

 (1992) Documentary about Boston's legendary 1369 Jazz Club. It is full of great music, engaging personalities, and evocative shooting. This was produced and edited by Richard Broadman of Cine Research Associates.
 

THE LAND WHERE THE BLUES BEGAN

 (1979) The musical and cultural origins of America's most original song form. made in collaboration with Alan Lomax, Worth Long, and the Mississippi Authority for Educational Television (PBS). A bowlderized version was rebroadcast in 1990 as part of the American Patchwork series.
 

 RHESUS PLAY

 (1977) A film description and analysis of play in free-ranging rhesus monkeys.
 

 PAPER FLOWERS & PAPAL PICADO

 (1993) Bi-lingual program about the traditional paper crafts of a Mexican altarista living in San Francisco.

RED TOP SNUFF

(1998) About the Byfield Snuff Company and the production of dipping snuff by a family that had the first mill in America. Shot on 16 mm reversal and half-inch black and white video in 1974; it was edited by Noah Bishop in 1999. Still photographs from the project are in the gallery.
 

 THE ART OF SAVING HISTORY

 (1988) Commissioned documentary about the conservation of painted murals, bronze statues, and historical flags in the Massachusetts State House. For the Massachusetts Art Commission.
 

 HAND PLAY

 (1986) Documentary about minkeys and lurmeys, a menagerie of hand creatures created by a nine year old boy.
 

 CHOOSE LIFE

 (1984) A film celebration of anti-nuclear action. Made with Robbie Leppzer, an accomplished producer of films for peace and social justice. Turning Tide Productions.
 

 YOYO MAN

 (1978) Ethnographic documentary about how a traditional Filipino toy became part of American children's repertoire through the work of one of the first Duncan yo-yo demonstrators.

 FACES OF CULTURE

 (1994) A revised edition of the popular 26 part telecourse on anthroplogy. I produced and edited the new programs and updates of the existing ones. It is on almost everyday somewhere and worth a look.
 

 PRESERVING OUR HISTORY

(1987) Commisioned documentary about the renovation and restoration of the historic Massachusetts State House.
 

 RHINOSKIN: THE MAKING OF A MOVIE STAR

(1993) I shot this part documentary and part narrative feature about a young actor trying to make it in Hollywood and the helpers he encounters for Tod Depree who both starred and directed. He has recently finished a second feature, The Last Big Attraction.
 

 MEDEAFILM

 (1990) Shot this exprimental drama for Richard Rutowski who is himslef an excellent cinematographer working in New York.
 

 SATCHMO

(1989) Shot the interviews for this feature length biography of Louis Armstrong for Toby Byron's Byron Multiprises. Met some wonderful musicians on a whirlwind schedule. It was shown on PBS and international television.
 

 HELLO BABY

 (1989) Film about childbirth. I was on a pager and shot three of the four births in the film.
 

 SONGS OF THE TALKING DRUM

(1989) One hour television documentary, "a cross-cultural fusion of music and storytelling", about two jazz musicians, Tony Vacca and Tim Moran and playwright and performance artist, Andrea Hairston. Shot for Robbie Leppzer, Turning Tide Productions.
 

 PRESENT MEMORY

(1988) Feature documenatry about the Jewish experience in late 2oth centerury America. Shot for Richard Broadman and Cine Research Associates.

GHURBAL

 (1993) Half hour ethnographuic process film about making a winnowing basket in an Egyptian Village. Edited for Fadwa El Guidi and El Nil Research.
 

SECRET OF THE GOLDEN EAGLE

 (1991) Childrens action-adventure film that I edited for Western LA Films. It was a real turkey that went straight to video, but it was fun to work with Rick Moon.
 

THE PEARL FISHER

 (1985) Dillon Bustin's quirky documentary about fresh water pearl fishing on the Wabash River. (editor)
