Weekly 8

Something I found interesting in Mimi Onuoha’s talk was the data was not just about the data, but how you obtain it and what you get from it. I found the part of her having to meet and interact with the couple, the family, and coworkers meant so much more to her than just getting the data or their locations. I felt kind of called out in a way because Jessica and my project was so heavily based on the data set we found online. I personally didn’t have any attachment to any of the crimes we decided to portray in our project and in a way felt very detached from what I was trying to portray. I honestly thought I was closer to Yuri and Stephanie’s project, just because I saw things that I bought, things that I didn’t like and things that I found funny on their data. I realized that a lot of the projects that was based on crowdsourcing felt a lot more closer to our day to day lives.
