Two Watermills and an Open Sluice, Jacob van Ruisdael, 1653

The mood that Ruisdael was able to convey through his landscape, Two Watermills and an Open Sluice, was very appealing to me. I therefore wanted to experiment with the different moods I could generate from this piece. With lighting as my primary tool, I attempted to recreate the vibrant light of the original for the copy, and for the modified image I carried over the spooky undertones that I felt in the original painting and tried to emphasize them in a nighttime scene.
