Edward Elliot next Fall 2010 index 156A My model is based on Manuel Alverez Bravo’s photograph, Parabola Optica, taken in 1931 in Mexico. By reversing the text in the photograph, Bravo tricks the viewer, calling into question whether or not seeing is indeed believing. While the name La Optica Moderna means “the modern optician’s shop,” Bravo chooses to title his photograph Parabola Optica, bestowing multiple meanings upon the image, playing with the notion that we shape our own meanings based off of what we see. |
