COLOR MANAGEMENT OFF

Turn OFF Color Management:
Select Windows->Settings/Preferences->Preferences
Select Color Management
Uncheck Enable Color Management
Select Save



CREATE A SCENE

Create->Nurbs->Cylinder
Change Sections to 36 and Height to 2
Translate 1 unit in Y

Create->Nurbs->Sphere
Change Sections to 16 and Spans to 8
Translate 2.5 units in X and 1 unit in Y

Create->Polygons->Plane

Set Width and Height to 20



ADD SHADERS

hypershadeWindows->Rendering Editors->Hypershade
Create -> Materials -> Lambert
Click the Map Button map_button.jpg  across from color and add a Checker texture from the Render Node Window
Under the texture's Attributes change color 1 to a 0.4 value and color 2 to a 0.3 value
Under the place2dTexture tab, change repeat UV to 16 (both)
Select the polygon plane and hold right click on the lambert material. Click Assign Material to Selection

Create -> Arnold Shader Surface
-> Arnold Standard Surface
Select the sphere and cylinder, hold right click on the aiStandard Surface material. Click Assign Material to Selection
In the Attributes menu
under Base, Change the Color value to 0.5



ADD LIGHTS

Add a background color for ambient light
Arnold->Lights->Skydome Light
Under THE Skydome Light Attributes, change the Color value to 0.2

Add a light to the scene
Create->Lights->Point Light
Translate 10 units in X, 15 units in Y and 10 units in Z
In the light Attributes, under the Arnold tab: change Exposure to 10



RENDER SETTINGS

Render Settings icon upper right or middle  srender_settings  (Windows->Rendering Editors->Render Settings...)

Change Rendering Using to Arnold Renderer
Presets-> Load Preset ->
Default Settings
Under the Common tab:
Under the Image File Output
arrow: choose Image format: Tiff
Uncheck Dither

GET RID OF NOISE
Render Settings icon upper right or middle  srender_settings 
Under Arnold Renderer tab:
Change SSS to 5 or more
Try Rendering your scene




RENDER WITHOUT ENVIRONMENT BACKGROUND

You will still have the ambient light affecting your scene.
Select the aiSkydome Light in the Outliner menu
In the Attribute Editor under Visibility, change the Camera value to 0



USE PRESET SHADERS
Make a aiStandard
shader
Press the Presets* button select a preset you would like to try.



SINGLE SIDED
Arnold rendering is very slow because it is calculating reflections, refractions, shadows, and ambient attributes. In order to help speed up the rendering make everything single sided.

Select all the objects in the scene.
Choose Windows->General Editors->Attribute Spread Sheet.
Select the Render Tab.
Click the Double Sided Column.
Input 0 to turn off all selected items at once.
Select only the plane, turn off Casts Shadows.
